Overcoming Sin and Self: A Path to Victory in Christ

July 19,2025

Romans 6:6, Romans 6:14

The Battle with Sin and Self
One of the greatest challenges we face is dealing with sin and self. These two enemies must be consciously studied and personally worked on. Deliverance from sin is not enough; we must also work on delivering ourselves from the grip of self. Glory be to God that through the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, both have been dealt with.

The Old Man and Self
The scriptures tell us that our old man has been crucified with Christ, and the body of sin has been done away with (Romans 6:6). The old man carries the placard of self, which the Holy Spirit defines as a Secret Enemy of Life Forever (S.E.L.F.);

S - Secret
E - Enemy of
L - Life
F - Forever

We must recognize self as dead, so that sin has no rule over us.

Living a Victorious Life
The scriptures assure us that sin has no dominion over us because we are no longer under law (Romans 6:14). However, many times, we attribute our actions to the Spirit when, in reality, it's the self that's at work. We must learn to reckon that our self is dead and live a victorious life in Christ Jesus.

Prayer
May we have the ability to live a victorious life in Christ Jesus, overcoming sin and self.
