Our Spiritual Warfare continued...
One of the first things we need to know is what are we fighting over?
Well, that's your next reference here.
First 2 Corinthians chapter 4 verses 3 and 4. Paul says, "But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost." The unsaved have the gospel hidden unto them. Even though we may have preached it to them, if they're still lost, it's being hid. By whom? The God of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not. Lest, the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
That's what Satan's doing. That's who we're fighting over. The souls of mankind is what we're fighting over.
We're not fighting over immorality. There's enough of that in the flesh. We're not fighting over crime. Although there's plenty of that. That's human nature stuff. And the devil may incite some of that human nature, but really he wants to blind the minds of people. He doesn't want people saved. We'll find out why in a little bit.
But notice what Matthew says, your next reference, Matthew 13:18-19. The parable of the sower. Listen to how Jesus describes this one. The first part of the parable of the sower.
"Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. When anyone heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth [believes] it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he who see the seed by the wayside."
The wicked one, the devil, is snatching away the word of God. He did it in the gospels and he hasn't changed. He doesn't want people to know the word of God, let alone get saved.
Your next reference talks about in 2 Corinthians 11:4, preaching another Jesus. It says, "If ye receive another spirit," receive another spirit. Who can that be? Well, it's possible. "Which ye have not received or another gospel which ye have not re accepted. You might bear with him."
False teachers, false spirits. Could this be the spirits are embodied in preaching from pulpits today? Well, look at the next verse. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 "For such are false apostles." Paul had false apostles in his day. People going around saying, "I'm sent from God. Listen to me. They're "deceitful workers transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ." Interesting word, transforming. This meana to change one’s appearance and is used of our bodies being changed like unto His glorious body in Phil. 3.21.
I don't know that I can transform myself into anything, but who can? Well, look at what he says. "And no marvel for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light." The devil can appear as a good guy. Someone you may know and like, who sounds good, sounds moral, upright, says good things. "So therefore it is no great thing if his ministers are also transformed as ministers of righteousness."
You know in the Old Testament, the angels appeared in the form of human beings many times. Are they still doing that? I wonder, so be aware of that possibility, if they're teaching false doctrine if they're teaching contrary to Paul's gospel. Who are these guys and where did they come from?
Now, what happens when we do get saved? There's an interesting quote from Colossians 1:12-13 "giving thanks to the Father who hath delivered us, (rescued us) from the power"(that's the same word from Eph. 6:12 authorities) of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son."
We used to be under the authority of darkness when we were lost and all lost still are! The authority or the authorities of darkness have power over them and are leading them even if they don't know it.
But this begs the question, we now know who we're fighting, we're fighting spiritual beings. We now know what we're fighting over, the souls of people. But really, who are these principalities and where or when did they get authority over Gentiles?
