*DEVOTIONAL COMPANION*
*DIOTREPHES AMONG US*
3 John 1:9 (KJV)...... *I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.*
God, by his Spirit, wants me to warn the church of the spirit of Diotrephes that is among us. What is this, Diotrephes? He was a member of the church that John founded. He was at first a devoted brother whose true intentions were hidden, but with time, it was made abroad for all to see.
In fact, history has it that this Diotrephes was the first monarchist bishop of Asia, i.e., he was an authority in the church. He was a leader, but the thing with this brother is that his name, Diotrephes, means “nourished by Zeus”, and Zeus is one fallen god of the Greeks. But he refused to change his name even after his encounter with Christ.
Diotrephes was a “satan in the flesh”. All he ever did to the church was nothing but evil.
3 John 1:11 (KJV)....... *.Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.*
As far as John the Apostle was concerned, he believed that this brother never saw the Lord because there is no way you will claim you have seen the Lord and still retain this amount of evil in you.
Why am I writing this to us? It is for us to also see that there were evil and evil people among the church of the early days. So, we don’t think that whatever we see happening among us today is new. Nothing is new.
Prayer:
Lord I thank you for sending me your word today. I also thank you for opening my eyes by it and showing me things for my learning and this will I also make others see in Jesus name. Amen.
Bible Reference: Ephesians 3:8-9, Colossians 3:1-11.
Wisdom Capsule:
Proverbs 11:4 (MSG)..... *.A thick bankroll is no help when life falls apart, but a principled life can stand up to the worst.*
