Good morning everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
Yesterday I told you about my glasses and several thought came to mind as I was typing. Today I want to share another lesson from that incident.
When I gave my glasses to the tech she said that she had never seen anything like that before and the only thing she could think of was that maybe the guide wire was too tight.
The glasses were more than 2 years old. Over time it is possible for the wire to have been too tight and slowly grooved its way into the exterior of the lens micro-movement to micro-movement until such time it found its way to the softer and more pliable material. Just as it takes thousands of years for rock formations to be made by water, a guide wire could take out a lens.
This particular avenue brings up a couple of thoughts. A division in the church and the introduction to sin.
I am sure we all will agree that if an ominous man in a red suit, with horns, a pitchfork and long tail with a spike at the end walked up to us and asked us to sin, we would recognize instantly and walk away without hesitation. However, he is much suaver and more debonair … he seduces us with logic.
Just as he told Eve that she would not ‘die’ if she ate the apple … he wasn’t wrong in the physical sense. She was not going to fall over dead … but her understanding of the word die and his interpretation slash presentation logically spoke that it was okay. Adding the icing to the treat of the fruit, he impressed that she would be like God and who doesn’t want to be like God … right?
This is how it is with us. He finds something that interests us, even if just a slight of the eye in that direction, and he finds a logical explanation as to why it is okay. Easiest example…gossip.
How many times have you had a conversation with someone about someone? Each of you speaking truthful events. Each of you sharing your thoughts on the situation. Both of you claiming you would say the same words “if the person were standing there too”. However, as soon as someone you are not sure of walks up … the conversation changes. Maybe not entirely, but just enough that you are not found out.
The enemy places this game that the only ‘sin’ we need to worry about are the big ten. You know, the ones that Moses said were the rules. But even those are subject to interpretation…in his eyes at least. He uses little nuggets like, ‘its not gossip if it is the truth’ or ‘if they were here, I would say it to their face’. Because of these nuggets we think it okay to speak poorly of someone … constantly.
I will raise my hand first in saying that I am guilty. I would like to say it is only when I lose my temper, but it is not … sometimes it is when I am frustrated or tired. These are weakened areas, and the enemy knows that. I was frustrated yesterday and found myself sinking into one of those moments. I was going to have a long vent and get it out of my system and the Holy Spirit said, ‘So, what ya doing?’. Subsequently, that conversation I was going to have … did not happen.
The guide wire did not just slice through the lens right away, it took time. Sin does not necessarily slice through our soul right away; it takes its time. Maybe there is a handsome young man or pretty young woman who started in the building. They caught your eye. You complement them and you think that is it. However, intrusive thoughts begin and because they are in your head only, they are okay…but they are not. Jesus said that is like adultery.
The enemy finds a nugget and chips at it until he has made his diamond of sin very prevalent in your life. Then he begins the self-condemnation. After that, the secret is out and the potential for peer judgement begins.
When you see ‘your’ guide wire slipping into your peace to divide your vision of right and wrong, quickly go to the Great Ophthalmologist for a refitting or new eye wear. Your soul depends
on it.
Be blessed today my friends.
