Letting Go of the Old: Embracing the Resurrected Life

July 28,2025

-Romans 8:14 ,Galatians 2:20 ,2 Corinthians 5:17

Have you ever attended a burial ceremony and noticed the stark contrast between the lifeless body and the vibrant activities surrounding it? The deceased's spirit has returned to God, leaving behind a lifeless shell. This reality check prompts us to reflect on our own lives and the true nature of our existence.

As believers, we have acknowledged that we have died with Christ and our old lives have been crucified with Him (Galatians 2:20). This profound truth should shape our understanding of ourselves and our relationship with the world. Yet, do we still cling to the old ways? Do we still allow our old life's characteristics – anger, malice, immorality, and corruption – to dictate our actions?

The Resurrected Life: A New Reality
In the resurrected life, we are led by the Spirit of God (Romans 8:14). This means that we are no longer controlled by our fleshly desires and impulses. Our old life's enjoyments and habits must die, making way for the new life in Christ. As the apostle Paul wrote, "The old has passed away; behold, the new has come" (2 Corinthians 5:17).

What Dies in the Old Life?
When we die with Christ, our old life's characteristics, such as:
- Uncontrolled anger and malice
- Immoral behavior and corruption
- Selfish desires and worldly pursuits
i.e Adamic nature

These things are no longer compatible with our new life in Christ. Instead, we're called to live a life marked by:

- Love, kindness, and compassion
- Humility, gentleness, and patience
- Self-control, integrity, and righteousness
i.e Resurrected life

A Call to Reflection
Take a moment to reflect on your life. Ask yourself:

- Has my old life truly died?
- Are there still areas where I'm controlled by my fleshly desires?
- Am I allowing the Spirit of God to lead me in my daily life?

Be honest with the Lord, and ask for wisdom to remain in Christ Jesus. May you receive the guidance and strength you need to live a life that honors Him.
