God’s Kingdom Is Not in a Hurry
Scripture
> “Now these were the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the children of Israel.”
— Genesis 36:31 (NKJV)
“When It Looks Like Others Are Winning”
At first glance, Genesis 36:31 seems like a historical note. But look closer—this verse tells us that Edom had kings long before Israel did.
Edom, the nation descended from Esau (Jacob’s brother), had power, leadership, and structure early. They looked successful—they had kings while Israel was still living in tents, still wandering, still waiting on God's promise.
But here's the powerful truth:
> Earthly success does not equal divine favor.
Though Edom appeared to advance faster, God had something greater in store for Israel. Israel's kingship would come later—by God’s choosing, and ultimately lead to King David and the King of kings, Jesus Christ.
This verse teaches us:
God’s plan unfolds on His schedule, not ours.
Others may look like they’re ahead, but God is not late.
Don’t measure your worth or future by someone else’s timeline.
Reflection Questions
1. Am I tempted to compare my journey with someone else's progress?
2. Do I trust that God’s timing is perfect, even when I feel left behind?
3. How can I be faithful today, even while I wait?
Prayer
Father God, thank You for reminding me that Your timing is not mine. I confess that I often compare myself to others and feel behind. But I trust that You are writing a better story than I could plan. Help me to walk in faith, not envy. Teach me to wait with hope and obey with joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
