Access to His Grace - Pastor Joseph Clark

In Romans 5:2, the Apostle Paul writes:

“Through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God.”

Each person is born into a sinful world with a sinful heart. All of humanity stands equally condemned because of sin. Yet, when we surrender ourselves to Christ’s saving grasp, we gain access to His grace.

Far too many walk through life believing they have all the answers—that they do not need God, nor should they even consider faith. They see themselves as being above all that. But the justice of the Lord is swift and final.

In contrast, His salvation, His grace, and His glory are full of splendor—beyond human language or imagination. Many have tried to describe it. Christ Himself described it using simple, human terms—so even a child could understand: “Paradise.”

The late Father Malachi Martin once put it beautifully:

“All glorified creation will be gathered around the awesome throne of our God’s divine majesty. No more tears. No more loneliness. No more solitary sadness. But just joy.”

So how do we live in light of this truth?

Small habits become big habits. When we feed ourselves with the things of the world, we develop worldly appetites—sinful appetites. But when we feed ourselves Heavenly food, we begin to crave Heavenly things.

We are not justified by our works—salvation is received, not achieved. But our sanctification involves the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit through us. Christ is the vine; we are the branches.

What is the fruit? The glory of God. Our works become the outward expression of the salvation we have received.

Once we’ve accessed His grace, the Holy Spirit begins to produce His fruit in us.

Let us not lose heart in the face of this fallen world’s trials. Let us not take for granted our hour-by-hour, moment-by-moment dependence upon God—His protection, and His plan.

Tribulation is certain. The Holy Spirit declares it plainly in His Word. But those who have accessed God's grace through salvation in Christ will be spared from wrath. We already belong to Christ’s Kingdom.

Those who access His grace will:

Walk submissively in the Lord.

Worship triumphantly in the Lord.

Witness urgently in the Lord.

Work fervently in the Lord.

Watch expectantly for the Lord.

Amen.
