YOUTH SATURDAY

THAT’S CLASSIFIED

That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet…

Apostle Paul counseled Titus to command older women to teach younger women to be discreet. However, this applies to both men and women. To be discreet is to keep things confidential. It’s to be careful and discerning who you reveal things to. Many people don’t respect their own privacy. Be like God, learn to have secrets. I’m not talking about being secretive about sinful things. Colossians 1:26 says, ‘...the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people.’ God has secrets. The reality of Christ was kept a mystery for millennia. God hid it from men of other generations, and only revealed it after the coming of the Lord. The Lord Jesus Christ Himself had secrets. He didn’t tell everyone everything. He spoke to the crowds in parables, but spoke to His disciples plainly. He would heal someone and command them not to tell anyone. When He was transfigured, He told Peter, James, and John not to tell even those who were part of the Twelve. The Lord Jesus Christ had an inner circle.

Not everyone should know your business. In other words, some things are none of people’s business. Don’t get in the habit of oversharing and revealing everything to everyone. Some information about yourself must be kept private. Not everyone can be trusted. Some things are just too high for some people. Matthew 7:6 says, ‘Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.’ Don’t share your most private and personal details with just anyone. Some people are like dogs or swine, once you’ve divulged your secrets to them, they’re going to use that information against you. Before long, everyone will know what you thought should be kept secret.

Some people are gossips and talebearers. Be careful around them. Don’t be one of those loud mouths who, after meeting someone for the first time and spending just five minutes with them, already know your life story. Learn to filter information. Not everyone is your family member. Even then, not every family member can keep a secret. Not everyone is your friend. Even then, some friends can’t be trusted with certain information. Be like the US government in some ways. Have your own internal FB!, CIA, or NSA. Deem certain information about yourself classified. Just as some things are a matter of national security, some things are a matter of personal security. Otherwise, before long, everyone will know what they shouldn’t know about you. If you want people to respect your privacy, respect your own privacy first. Even on social media, not everyone has to know where you are, what you’re doing, what you ate when you got there, with whom, and for what reason. Not everyone has to know your most intimate thoughts, plans, ambitions, and dreams. Colossians 3:3 says, ‘For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.’ Your life is hidden with Christ in God. Keep it that way. Glory to God!

CONFESSION

My life is hidden with Christ in God, and I keep it that way. My private life is just that, private. Glory to God!
