Jesus said . . . “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.
— John 5:8-9

Thought Of The Day...
At the pool of Bethesda, a lame man encountered Jesus. When Jesus asked him, “Do you want to be made well?” the man had a clear chance to say “Yes!” and receive healing. But instead, he placed his hope in the so-called healing waters of the pool and complained that others always stepped ahead of him when the waters were stirred.
It’s easy to shake our heads at his response, but don’t we often respond the same way? Instead of embracing the help Jesus offers, we sometimes make excuses, shift blame, or get caught up in frustration over our circumstances.
Yet, the beauty of the story in John 5 is this: healing didn’t depend on the man’s faith—it depended on Jesus. Despite the man’s complaints and lack of belief, Jesus still healed him. Jesus gave him the strength to stand and walk, not because he earned it, but because of grace.
And that same grace is extended to us. Even when our faith is weak or our obedience falters, Jesus still offers salvation. Our hope doesn't rest on our own merit, but on God’s unmerited favor. As Jesus reminds His disciples in John 15:16, “You did not choose me, but I chose you.” Praise God for His mercy and grace!

Prayer...
Gracious Father,
Thank You for loving us far more than we deserve. Like the man by the pool at Bethesda, we often lie in places of pain, waiting and hoping—unsure, unable, or unwilling to rise. Yet You, in Your mercy, speak directly to our hearts with power and compassion, saying, “Get up, pick up your mat, and walk.”
Thank You for calling us out of hopelessness and into healing, not because of our strength, but because of Your grace. Even when we do not have the wisdom or faith to seek You, You still choose us, pursue us, and restore us. Your grace through Jesus lifts us up, gives us purpose, and reminds us that we are never beyond Your reach.
Help us to walk boldly in the new life You offer. Strengthen our faith, renew our hearts, and remind us daily that Your love is not based on our performance, but on the finished work of Christ. We receive Your healing today with gratitude.
In the name of Jesus, our Savior and Healer, Amen.
