YOUTH SATURDAY
YOU MUST BECOME THE BIGGEST PROJECT YOU’RE WORKING ON RIGHT NOW
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye - Matthew 7:5
It’s so important for us to understand how to live eternal life. Inasmuch as God wants us to help others, the Lord Jesus Christ teaches us that we need to be the biggest priority in our relationships with others. We can’t help others before we have helped ourselves. This always sounds wrong. It always comes across as selfishness, however, it’s how things are ordered in the realm of the Spirit. Before we can teach others to obey God, we must first learn obedience ourselves. In other words, the degree to which we allow God to help us, is the degree we can help others. As a result, we must receive as much from God as possible so that we may be of service to others as much as possible. You cannot remove a splinter in your brother or sister’s eye until you’ve dealt with the blindness in your own life first. You cannot remove the chains around your brother or sister’s wrists and ankles until you’ve attained liberty yourself.
Mark 12:31 says, ‘And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.’ We’re not just commanded to love our neighbour, but we are to love our neighbour as ourselves. That means before we can love others, we should have loved ourselves first. This is so important to understand. People who see themselves as useless, worthless, and are bitter and angry with the world, don’t see any value in you. They don’t understand why other people’s lives must be good when their own lives are miserable. As a result, they cannot love others, no matter how hard others try. We must first receive God’s love for us, and when we love ourselves with the love that God loves us with, loving others won’t be a struggle.
This is where many have gone wrong in life. They’ve made their ministry, their congregation members, their marriage, their spouses, children, their business, or even the needy the biggest priority in their lives. That’s why many of them are bitter, angry, and disappointed with their lives. It sounds wrong. It sounds selfish, but you must be the biggest priority in your life. Not that you must not make others a priority, but you must be the biggest priority. The biggest project you must be working on right now should be you. You must work on yourself to become the best man or woman God wants you to be. This is how you can be of value to others. This is how you can help others effectively. When you’re angry, depressed, and on the verge of suicide, you can only destroy other people’s lives. For us to be a blessing to others, we must first be blessed. For us to save others, we must first be saved. When we stop working on ourselves, we begin to wilt and die. But when we avail ourselves for others to pour into our lives through books, courses, seminars, workshops, videos, and the like, we’re refreshed and energised to help others. This is how we become the best ministers, spouses, children, employers, employees, citizens, and helpers. Work on yourself, and those around you will thank you for it. Glory to God!
