RESURRECTION SUNDAY

IN ALL THESE THINGS. GLORY TO GOD!

Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide - Acts 4:2-3

The early Church apostles went everywhere and preached that the Lord Jesus Christ will one day return and raise the dead back to life. They preached that He would come back and judge both the living and the dead. The resurrection to come was an important ingredient in the message they carried. When others heard it, they were shaken and compelled to repent of their sin and receive eternal life. When others heard it, they were convicted of sin, righteousness, and judgment. As a result, they lived holy and righteous lives before God. This caused a stir in Jerusalem to such an extent that the religious folks took note of the apostles and began to persecute them. They threw them in prison. Acts 5:41 says, ‘And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.’ Afterwards, the religious leaders had them flogged severely and they threw them out.

However, the apostles went away rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer for the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is the Spirit of faith the apostles operated with. They had seen the Lord Jesus Christ suffer the same fate. They saw Him be arrested, flogged, nailed to the cross, and killed. However, they also saw Him rise from the dead. As a result, no man could intimidate them with pain or death. They knew that through the Lord Jesus Christ, the dead will rise. Romans 8:35-37 says, ‘Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.’ Whether it be tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, or war, we are strong in the Lord and the power of His might.

In all these things, we’re more than conquerors. Our Lord Jesus Christ conquered death, therefore, we walk this earth in boldness, we’re fearless. James 1:2 says, ‘My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials.’ Like the apostles, we count it all joy when we encounter diverse tests and trials. We don’t cower in fear, we don’t cut and run, but we fight the good fight of faith. James 1:12 says, ‘Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.’ We therefore endure the trials of this life, knowing that when we have stood the test of time, we will receive the crown of life. We are about to experience the most trying time in human history, however, we’re going to do so in faith and not fear. 1 John 5:4 says, ‘For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.’ We’re born of God, therefore, no matter what this age throws at us, we have already overcome it. This is the victory that has overcome the trials and tribulations, the wars and rumours of wars, the famines and pestilences, the persecutions and natural disasters. Our faith is the victory that overcomes the pressures of this world. Glory to God!

CONFESSION

War, pestilence, famine, natural disasters, and persecution are coming. But in all these trials and tribulations, I’m more than a conqueror. Glory to God!
