Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
Vacation. It is a wonderful word. Today we go pick up the kids from the airport. Three solid weeks of interesting and entertaining conversation. Three weeks of ‘schneller schneller’ (faster faster). Three weeks of … ‘why can’t I get these new translators to work’. Haha. Three weeks of unimaginable fun.
My generation and my mom’s generation are arguably the most determined workaholics alive. There is something in us that drives us to work…and work all the time. That is not necessarily a bad
thing, but it can be. Knowing that you need a break and actually taking a break are wildly miles apart. So when our generations do decide to have a vacation, we go one of two ways with it … either still working but not getting paid or …. Or …. Cannot even spell the word wrk. (haha). It has taken me several years, but I have finally found the latter. That is a good thing.
When God cursed the ground because of Eve’s sin, he did not mean for us to toil non-stop. He did not mean for us to work ourselves into the ground. He simply meant that we had to work for needs, instead of Him providing them on the easy road. We chose this life, and the enemy twisted it to make us think that all there was in life was work. That just is not true. God took a day off on the 7th day, why would he not want us to take time and rest as well?
True, he did not take a three-week vacation as I am doing; however, he does know that we need such a break to reset our boundaries, our mental state, our perspective, and our goals. He knows that if we live inside our work, then that is all we are … but if we leave our work and turn it off in our minds, we will be more absorbent vessels to carry His word to those who have not heard it yet.
If you are in my generation and were taught that you must work and it feels like the pressure is to work all the time…then you need to take a deep breath and realize that you are more than your work. You are a child of God and if your Father needed a break, then how much more do you think that you need a break. Sometimes a day of nothing is just what the doctor ordered, but sometimes the need is much longer so that your body can reset, recharge, and reassess. These three weeks, I will be recharging with the aid of little ones. When they live, I will reassess my choices realizing that I am too old to do the things that I did. With any kind of luck, I won’t have to have any body parts reset. My point is this, He said to come to him as child, and for the next three weeks, I will be a 56-year-old child. At the end, I will be a new woman and ready to face the world again. Take time out of your busy schedule and reset, recharge, and reassess.
Be blessed today my friends.
***When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. – Mark 10:14
