MIRACLE (42) By B.B.John
Twice, Jesus performed the Miracle of the Big Catch of Fishes; caught after the disciples' initial failed efforts.
The first instance was recorded in Luke 5:1–11. This miracle, which happened in the early days of Jesus' ministry, have five lessons for us:
1ST LESSON: 'Let's willingly give our property and business tools to God for use in the gospel works.'
Peter gave his boat to Jesus to preach to the multitudes at the bank of the sea of Galilee.
2ND LESSON:
'Never allow past futile efforts and failed toils to make you doubt and ignore God's word. Like Peter, let's learn to act on His word.'
After Jesus was done with preaching in Peter's boat, He told him and his partners to cast their nets into the deep.
"... Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch." (Luke 5: 4)
Though these professional fishermen had labored all night without success, they chose to act the word of Christ.
"...We have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net." (vs. 5)
3RD LESSON:
'The word produces miracle. If we want a net-breaking miracle, a 'big catch' abundance; we must obey God's words of command.'
When Peter and partners did as Jesus commanded they "... caught a great number of fish and their net was breaking."
That's a miracle - overflowing and overwhelming!
4TH LESSON:
'Recognizing Christ's divine authority in true repentance and worship should be our human response to the miracle we experienced.'
Peter, on seeing the big catch, was amazed and recognized Jesus' power and authority. Immediately, he left his overflowing net and ran to Jesus, and fell down at His feet with a cry: "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord."
5TH LESSON
'The has a higher commission for every true worshipper.'
As Peter fell and worshipped Him, Jesus called him to the high commission, saying, "Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men."
Peter, James and John left their boat and followed Jesus. That's a glorious shift - a shift from catching fishes to catching people. Soul winning is a glorious mission. Yeah, evangelism is the higher call and it's a divine mandate for all true believers in Christ.
May we never fail in winning souls for Christ. Amen..
