NDE’s and the New Age. Many in the New Age get their beliefs about the afterlife from near-death experience (NDE) reports, instead of from the Word of God.
These reports often sound fascinating and comforting, yet if you examine them closely, you’ll see that they all contradict each other - and most importantly, they contradict Scripture.
Someone may sincerely believe they had a NDE, yet that’s not the point. This is about getting our theology from the Bible, not from anecdotes.
The most common theme of NDE’s is that everyone goes to heaven, no matter who they are or what they’ve done, giving false assurance to people who don’t know or follow the real Jesus.
This isn’t the biblical Jesus who said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).
In the New Age, “Jesus” is often recast as an “ascended master” who approves of every lifestyle, never calls people to repent, and never warns of judgment. That’s not the Lord of Scripture; it’s a false christ.
Most New Agers also deny that hell or the devil exist. If they do acknowledge hell, they laugh about it as if it’s a party with their friends, scoffing at the idea of eternal torment. Yet Jesus spoke more about hell than anyone else in the Bible, because He loves us and doesn’t want anyone to perish there.
The truth is, we can’t trust near-death accounts as our source of truth about eternity. They’re inconsistent, self-contradictory, and shaped by human interpretation and even demonic deception.
We must get our understanding of the afterlife from the Bible alone, where God has clearly revealed the reality of heaven, the warning about hell, and the only way to be saved: through faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who died for our sins and rose again. Anything else is spiritually dangerous.
