GENEROSITY – GIVING BACK TO GOD AND OTHERS
“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”
— 2 Corinthians 9:7 (KJV)
Giving: A Heart Response to God’s Goodness
Generosity is one of the purest and most practical ways to respond to God's goodness. When you give, you're not just parting with material things—you are saying to God, “I recognize You as my Source, and I choose to honor You with what You have given me.”
True generosity is birthed from revelation: Everything I have, God gave me.
Why Giving Reflects Gratitude
When your heart is grateful, your hands become open. Grateful people are generous people. They are:
• Not possessive, because they trust God to provide more
• Not fearful, because they’ve seen God come through before
• Not stingy, because they know what it feels like to be blessed
The early church understood this. Acts 4:32–35 reveals that no one lacked anything because those who had more gave freely. That’s what happens when God’s goodness is fully understood—it overflows.
Giving Back to God
1. Tithing
o Returning 10% of your income to God through the local church.
o An act of honor, obedience, and faith (Malachi 3:10).
2. Offerings
o Giving beyond the tithe as a love response to God.
o Includes thanksgiving, first fruits, missions, and building support.
3. Sacrificial Giving
o When prompted by the Spirit, giving in a way that costs you something significant (like the widow’s mite in Mark 12:41–44).
We don’t give because God is in need—we give because we love Him.

Giving to Others
1. To the Poor and Needy
o “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord…” (Proverbs 19:17)
o God takes personal responsibility for those who give to the needy.
2. To Ministers and Ministries
o Supporting those who minister the Word (Galatians 6:6).
o Propels the work of God forward.
3. To Family and Community
o Honoring parents, blessing children, supporting the weak.
4. To Strangers and the Forgotten
o Generosity that reflects God’s impartial love.
The Blessings of Generosity
2 Corinthians 9:8 promises:
“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you… having all sufficiency in all things…”
Generosity triggers:
• Abundance – not just money, but grace and favor
• Joy – cheerful givers are joyful souls
• Harvest – seeds sown bring multiplied returns
• Impact – your giving transforms lives and destinies
You are never poorer because you gave—you are richer in heaven’s economy.
Guarding the Spirit of Generosity
• Give willingly, not reluctantly.
• Give cheerfully, not under pressure.
• Give consistently, not just when convenient.
• Give secretly when necessary—let God reward you openly.
The value of your gift is not in its amount, but in the heart behind it.
Reflection
Are you hoarding what you should be giving? Have you made generosity a habit or an occasional gesture? Are you quick to give thanks but slow to give support?
To truly reflect God’s goodness, become a conduit through which He can bless others. Your generosity may be the answer to someone’s desperate prayer.
Prayer Points
1. Father, thank You for every resource, opportunity, and provision in my life.
2. Lord, make me a cheerful and consistent giver.
3. Break every spirit of greed, fear, and selfishness in my heart.
4. Use my giving to advance Your kingdom and bless the lives of others.
5. Teach me to give sacrificially, joyfully, and with an eternal perspective.
