1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 Exploring NASB

1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 Rejoice always;

pray without ceasing;

in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Do not quench the Spirit;

do not despise prophetic utterances.

But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good;

abstain from every form of evil.

2 Corinthians 6:4-10 but in everything commending ourselves as servants of God, in much endurance, in afflictions, in hardships, in distresses,

in beatings, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in sleeplessness, in hunger,

in purity, in knowledge, in patience, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in genuine love,

in the word of truth, in the power of God; by the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and the left,

by glory and dishonor, by evil report and good report; regarded as deceivers and yet true;

as unknown yet well-known, as dying yet behold, we live; as punished yet not put to death,

as sorrowful yet always rejoicing, as poor yet making many rich, as having nothing yet possessing all things.

Ephesians 6:17-18 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,

Sanctification and Love

1 Thessalonians 4:1-5 Finally then, brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk and please God (just as you actually do walk), that you excel still more.

For you know what commandments we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.

For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality;

that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,

not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God;

1 Peter 2:15-17 For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men.

Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God.

Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.

Testing the Spirits

1 John 4:1-3 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God;

and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.

Philippians 4:8-9 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
