Good morning everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
One of the areas in life that I want to make sure that my grandkids have is that of having fun with family. With the American grands and the German grands, the entertainment in my house is over the top. Though there is a definite language barrier, they are learning to adapt and overcome that barrier. There are frustrating points, but the good points far outweigh the bad.
Watching the kids play, get along, and figure it out is the exact definition and example of what Jesus has told us to do. We are to go out and make disciples. But what happens when you speak a different language? How do you communicate?
You can speak the same ‘native’ language and yet speak two different languages based on how or where you were raised. We can both be American, speak English and yet not understand the other. If I grew up in a loving home with boundaries and lots of true love, I am not going to understand the hardships of one who was raised in a hostile environment with love being ‘earned’. It is the exact same concept as my grandkids trying to play together.
So, the question remains … How do you communicate?
Start small. Like with my littles, I gave my American kids a few key words. Like: high or up, down, come, hello, play, etc. As the evening and morning have progressed, more and more words are being introduced. The understanding is growing.
So, in the loving verses hostile lifestyle, still you must start small. First of all, you must listen. Not to just the words, but the emotion and context. Then apply the best understanding that you can without having actually living it. Afterwards, and during, expose them to God’s true unconditional love. Because love is not freely given in their world, it will take some time for them to understand and accept yours. However, with consistent and honest displays, a communication line will develop. You just have to have faith and press on during the hard times.
Though that exact example is not in my path, I have a similar issue where I am trying to connect with someone who lives in the land of doubt and fear. Always looking for the other shoe to fall. I know that I was placed in their life for a purpose and all I can do is take the steps that God has put in front of me to take. As I follow His lead, their path of darkness will fade into the Light. I just have to keep going.
If there is a situation that is similar for you, take heart and know that God placed you there for a reason. You were the one He chose to share His love. Do not be discouraged, just continue to look at the true and bigger picture … making disciples and saving souls.
Be blessed today my friends.
