1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 Exploring CSB

1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 Rejoice always,

pray constantly,

give thanks in everything; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Don't stifle the Spirit.

Do not despise prophecies,

but test all things. Hold on to what is good.

Stay away from every kind of evil.

2 Corinthians 6:4-10 Instead, as God's ministers, we commend ourselves in everything; by great endurance, by afflictions, by hardships, by difficulties,

by beatings, by imprisonments, by riots, by labors, by sleepless nights, by times of hunger,

by purity, by knowledge, by patience, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love,

by the word of truth, by the power of God; through weapons of righteousness for the right hand and the left,

through glory and dishonor, through slander and good report; regarded as deceivers, yet true, as unknown, yet recognized; as dying, yet see--we live; as being disciplined, yet not killed;

as grieving, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet enriching many; as having nothing, yet possessing everything.

Ephesians 6:17-18 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit--which is the word of God.

Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.

The CALL TO SANCTIFICATION

1 Thessalonians 4:1-5 Additionally then, brothers and sisters, we ask and encourage you in the Lord Jesus, that as you have received instruction from us on how you should live and please God-- as you are doing-- do this even more.

For you know what commands we give you through the Lord Jesus.

For this is God's will, your sanctification; that you keep away from sexual immorality,

that each of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor,

not with lustful passions, like the gentiles, who don't know God.
1 Peter 2:15-17 For it is God's will that you silence the ignorance of foolish people by doing good.

Submit as free people, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but as God's slaves.

Honor everyone. Love the brothers and sisters. Fear God. Honor the emperor.

THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH AND THE SPIRIT OF ERROR

1 John 4:1-3 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirit to see if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

This is how you know the Spirit of God; Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,

but every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the anti-christ, which you have heard is coming, even now it is already in the world.

Philippians 4:8-9 Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true,
whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable--if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy-- dwell on these things.

Do what you have learned and received and heard from me, and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.
