James 3:3-6 (KJV)
(3)Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.
(4)Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.
(5)Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
(6)And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

Our tongue is a deadly weapon for us to have, it can build someone up or tear someone down. Just like a horse when they use a bridle to keep them in check and to follow their master where he wants him to go, so we are the same. We need to have a bridle on our tongue and be under our Master Jesus Christ and only speak when we the Holy Spirit urges us to speak. We need to learn when to speak and when not to speak. Only a wise person will speak when the Holy Spirit leads him to A fool who holds his tongue, makes people think he's wise. So as you see a fool can be like the wise when he says nothing.
(Proverbs 17:27,28)
(27)He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.
(28)Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

And there are people in all churches that have a harsh tongue and can unthinkingly hurt other members in that flock. So it's back to, if you don't have something nice to say then don't say anything at all. It's just like an angry person, we are not supposed to be friends with them because we may end up just like them.

(Proverbs 22:24,25)
(24(Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:
(25)Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.
