THE ADVENT TRUTH.
August 21st
People say, “I can trace the Catholic Church back to the first century.” But the apostolic church of Acts looks nothing like Catholicism today. The apostles preached salvation by grace (Eph. 2:8–9), kept the Sabbath (Acts 13, 17, 18), and rejected worship of men or images (Acts 10:26; Rev. 19:10). None of Catholicism’s key doctrines — Sunday sacredness, papacy, purgatory, Marian dogmas — exist in the first century church.
Prophecy proves it. Daniel 9’s 490-year timeline points to Christ, not Rome:
• 27 AD – Jesus baptized in the 15th year of Tiberius (Luke 3:1).
• 31 AD – “In the midst of the week” He was crucified under Tiberius, ending sacrifices.
• 34 AD – Stephen stoned, gospel to Gentiles, just before Caligula’s reign.
The true church was founded on Christ’s ministry — not papal Rome. Catholicism rose centuries later: Constantine’s Sunday law (321 AD), Justinian granting papal supremacy (538 AD).
And history shows Catholicism gained power through fabrication and deception: the forged Donation of Constantine, false relics and indulgences, and invented Marian traditions — all tools to manipulate conscience and governments. Exactly what 2 Thess. 2 warned about.
If Catholicism is really the unchanged first-century church, where is Sunday sacredness, the papacy, purgatory, or Mary’s sinlessness in the New Testament? They’re not there. The 490-year prophecy proves the true church is centered on Christ — not Rome.
