James 4:6-10 (KJV)
(6)But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
(7)Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

If we are prideful men and women then God will resist our cry and will deny what we are asking for, because of our boasting and prideful heart, but if we have a humble heart and we ask humbly at the foot of the cross he will rejoice and be glad to fulfill our requests. As long as they are in line with His will then He will answer us faithfully .

(8)Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
(9)Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
(10)Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

So if we draw closer To God He will draw closer to us. We must first purify our hearts and our souls by our repeatance and asking for forgiveness, but we must do it humbly and not keep returning to the same sin over and over again.
Because if we humbly ask Jesus Christ in a repentanceing cry and ask Him for forgiveness He will. And if you have sincerely repented, Then Jesus will keep His promises to you and forgive you, and He will lift you up in your time of need and comfort you when you are hurting and needing to be uplifted, and when you are in need a comforting Spirit He will always be there right by your side to comfort you which is a guaranteed promise from Jesus Christ.
