THE ADVENT TRUTH

August 24th

The Bible never says our souls float to heaven when we die. Instead, death is described as a sleep until the resurrection.

• Acts 2:29, 34 – Peter said David, “is both dead and buried… David is not ascended into the heavens.” If anyone’s soul should’ve gone to heaven, it would be David’s, but Peter says plainly he’s still in the grave.

• Job 14:12 – “So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.” The dead don’t go straight to heaven—they wait for the resurrection.

• John 11:11-14 – Jesus said plainly that Lazarus was “asleep,” and when pressed, clarified, “Lazarus is dead.” He didn’t say Lazarus was in heaven.

• 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 – Paul says the dead in Christ rise at Jesus’ second coming, not before. Then, together with the living, they meet the Lord in the air.

The teaching that your soul goes immediately to heaven comes from pagan philosophy, not the Bible. Scripture is consistent: the dead rest in the grave until the resurrection. That’s why the blessed hope is the second coming—not death.

The truth may not be popular, but it’s clear. The Bible interprets itself line upon line.
