Good morning everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
Yesterday we celebrated two anniversaries and a birthday. Our visiting German kids go married on my husband’s birthday and one of our stateside kids got married just a few days before. The spread of food that we had; one would have thought that we were feeding the state. I took a picture of AFTER we ate, and you would not have known we had eaten at all. We tend to go overboard when we do a get together. We never want anyone to go away hungry.
All the littles played in the pool, with the water bombs, the water guns (super soakers), chalk, slip and slide, and let’s not forget the everlasting game of tag in a large country yard. Rest assure, I was on better behavior since, though I am recovering nicely from my bruised buttocks, running, and playing like normal was out of the question. I can say that the slip and slide looked tempting though
In my childhood, the only good cameras were held by those with more money than us and family gathering photos are not readily available for taking that trip down memory lane. So, whenever I get any portion of my kids together, I get a family photo with them. To be honest, it is probably more for me than anyone else, but I am the picture bully, and I am okay with that. One day, the littles wont be little anymore and they will see that we were a family of love. They will know the challenges of our existence, but they will know that we did have love.
So, what is a family? Some say blood. Some say relationship. I say, a family is a host of people brought together by God’s grace. Some in that gathering will be blood, others not, but still family. You will not get along with all the members or even agree with all of them, but you will still have that underlying love. I have many people that I consider family. Once your soul pierces my heart, you are family. You are welcome in my home. I will help in any way that I can, and I will include you in my family photos. Once you make the photo, you are in.
God told us to go out and make disciples. To build the Kingdom. How can we do that if we are not willing to build our family? Your family will look different than mine. That’s fine. Your family will have different characters. That’s fine. We are not meant to be cookie cutter families, all the same, but take a risk, take a chance, build your family. One soul at a time.
Yesterday I invited (bullied) my daughter-in-law’s mom to join us in our photo. She said that she was not the family. I told our son to let her know that she IS family. Forever. She is stuck with me. She joined us.
Build your family … not by the world’s standards … but by God’s.
Be blessed today my friends.
***We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. –1 Corinthians 2:6-7
