THE ADVENT TRUTH

The gospel doesn’t exclude works — it puts them in their proper place.
The Bible is clear: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). Salvation is never earned. No amount of good deeds or effort can buy eternal life. It’s the gift of God.
But notice the very next verse: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). We’re not saved by works — we’re saved for works. Works don’t earn salvation, but they reveal it.
James 2:17 drives it home: “Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” A living faith will always produce obedience.
Jesus said, “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples” (John 15:8). The fruit is obedience and the life of good works that comes from abiding in Him.
Paul says the same in Titus 2:14: “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Christ didn’t die to leave us in sin. He died to redeem and transform us.
And Jesus warns in Matthew 7:16–17: “Ye shall know them by their fruits… Every good tree bringeth forth good fruit.” Works don’t save you — but they show what tree you belong to.
So when someone claims that good works don’t matter, the truth is this: Good works don’t save us, but they prove that we’ve been saved. Grace doesn’t free us from obedience; it empowers us to obey.
Salvation is by grace through faith, but the faith that saves is never alone. It always bears fruit.
The Gospel = Grace saves us.
Faith = receives it.
Works = demonstrates it.
