I’ve been reflecting on this verse: “He who the Son sets free is free indeed.” (John 8:36)
As I meditated on it, I realized this is one of the hardest verses to explain to a non-believer. Before I gave my life to Jesus four years ago, I thought I had everything figured out. I thought I was free! Living my “best life,” doing whatever I wanted.
But when I encountered Jesus, the first thing I realized was that I was actually a prisoner. I wasn’t free at all. In fact, I was a slave, a slave to sin. What I thought I was doing out of “free will” wasn’t truly freedom at all, and that’s why shame and guilt always followed me.
But now… oh, to be free! To be truly free in Christ Jesus is a freedom I never knew before. It’s not that in Christ I am simply restricted from sin; it’s that sin and the devil no longer have a hold on me. I am FREE!!!
