Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
Today is the last full day with the kids. It has truly been a blessing of events over the last three weeks. The ends of each vacation we have are always bittersweet. We love having them for as long as they desire yet are ready for our normal. They love being here for the change in pace and scenery yet are ready for their norm as well. I was told that our extra guest has said that she is not necessarily ready to go home, it is quiet here. Haha.
This morning I go and get the van to transport all of us to the airport tomorrow. After I get home, then we will head to Uncle Johns Flea Market up north, followed by the Labor Day fest in Earl Park. After all the treasures are found, that we did not know existed, we will return home for one last American meal of request and some family time.
Tomorrow, after we take them to the airport and return the van, we will be blessed with an overnight stay with the other grandkids, so that Mom and Dad can celebrate the gift they were given for their anniversary from a friend—concert tickets. Monday, after I take the kids home, I am sure I will be sleeping … haha. I love all my grandkids, but they do have a lot more energy than I do.
I was asked once how I do the long-distance thing with my German grandkids. I do the only thing I can do; I embrace the moments that I have with them. I let them know that I am here. I allow them to know me. I allow myself to know them. I build a foundation, and we accept that there is an ocean between us but when we are together, we are together. I do not dwell on the fact that I cannot see them in person on a whim but accept the blessings of their time when I am with them. Do I ever need a time out because my energy is gone, yes? But those timeouts are merely energy boosters for my old body. I take those memories that we build and use them to fuel the desire to see them until the next time.
Many times in life, we see something that we like or desire, but it is out of our reach. For whatever the reason, it is out of our reach. The enemy uses these moments to plant seeds of regret, doubt, fear, anger, dismay…the list goes on. If we even linger for a moment on those mindsets, he will do whatever he can to make those ideas hold on causing us to lose our peace and joy. Those aspects of life are real. They do exist and are rightful to be felt, however, we cannot live there. When we make the choice to dwell in area of “its not mine” or “its not fair” or any other avenue, the enemy digs in for the long haul and nothing is ever good enough.
If you would have told me thirty years ago that I would be financially stable with a good job and not worrying about bills being paid or food on the table, I would have laughed heartedly at you. If you would have told me twenty years ago that I would be looking at retirement and the ability to travel, I would have laughed at you. If you would have told me ten years ago that I would be the caregiver to two family members and trying to fit work into the schedule, I would have laughed at you. However … here we are.
God has a plan for our lives. He only reveals what we need when we need it. Not according to what we believe we need, but what He knows we need. Sometimes that is the hardest thing to understand. We see what it is. We know we need or want it. We also know that there is no way for us to obtain it on our own, only God can provide. It is not a bad thing but a good thing, so why is He not allowing it. Though it may not be a ‘bad’ thing, sometimes getting good things too soon turn into bad. We must learn to appreciate what we have when we have it so that He can deliver the need that is before us.
I wanted a family. I wanted home. I wanted to be financially stable. I wanted to be able to live freely. But He knew that I had some growing up to do in order for that to even occur. Now that I have grown up in the areas that he wanted me to, He has blessed me with the desires of my heart. I am so thankful for that.
I know from experience that moving into an area too soon was a detrimental choice for my career. Where that early move was not good for my personal desired advancement, that particular move did equip me for my current role in the company. So where it was wrong, it was right.
In today’s world, we believe that we are entitled to this or that because we have done this or that. The reality is, we are not entitled to anything. WE are blessed with time and the events of those outcomes. Whether they be negative or positive…they are blessings.
