Psalms 51:16 says, "For thou DESIREST NOT sacrifice; else would I give it: thou DELIGHTEST NOT in burnt offering." So, what's the point? If God didn't need the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins, why the ceremonial rites? Since the blood of bulls and goats cannot take away sins, why ask for it? God is not a vampire. He is not a time waster. He doesn't waste resources. He is all-wise. Hebrews 10:4 says, "FOR IT IS NOT POSSIBLE that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins." Also Hebrews 10:6, "In burnt offerings and sacrifices FOR SIN thou hast had NO PLEASURE." The priests were busy doing something that's actually not needed in taking away sins. Hebrews 10:11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, WHICH CAN NEVER take away sins: Then, why? MOSES GAVE THEM THE OLD TESTAMENT PRACTICES JUST TO KEEP THEM BUSY? God doesn't need it. But because of their unbelief, it would be dangerous to leave them to walk in faith. They cannot fathom the idea of a God who they cannot see, feel or touch. Moses wasn't around for just forty days and they made a golden bull for themselves. They needed a day to day activity that looked like what they experienced in Egypt so as to keep their hearts on God. They were deep in unbelief. They won't believe without seeing a proof. Moses needed to substantiate God to them. Therefore, the ceremonial laws were necessary. However, Jesus made the perfect sacrifice. He paved the way for the Holy Spirit to dwell in us: enabling us to enjoy God by faith. Because Hebrews 11:6 says, "...without faith it is IMPOSSIBLE to please him..."
