Something that we need to know about a sin we can't get rid of scripture from Romans (NLT)
Romans 7:14-25
[14]So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin.
[15]I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.
[16]But if I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good.
[17]So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it.
[18]And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t.
[19]I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway.
[20]But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it.
[21]I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong.
[22]I love God’s law with all my heart.
[23]But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me.
[24]Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?
[25]Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.
I know that Paul struggled with a specific sin (what ever it was we do not know because the Bible never tells us), he had a hard time surrendering it to Christ and not doing it again. We all have sins like this in our every day lives, I know I have but I keep turning to God to repent, whether it be lustful thoughts or lustful actions. So if we give up and stop repeating then its like saying "ok Satan I will let you lead my life " and then Satan has already won the battle for possession of our soul, and if we keep repeating and running back to Jesus that is like saying "OK Jesus lets try this again", and thats exactly what Paul did he keep going back and trying it again. Because in:
[14]So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin.

Even though we struggle with a certain sin its because of our sinful nature that why we are always in a constant fight with our sins. Even though we want to do the right thing its sin that leads us to death that causes us to fall, still its our own choice, the Holy Spirit or Jesus won't stop us from doing it he only says quietly "no don't do this because its wrong" because in the end its a personal choice of our to
make because God gave us free will we have to say "NO I won't do this because its like putting the strips on Jesuse's back and hanging Him on the cross all over again," and we need to keep asking and praying for Christ's help because if we do He will help us through it and its part of His promises so have faith that He will.
[22]I love God’s law with all my heart.
[23]But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me.

And as it say a little lower that Paul loves the law but the power of that sin still has control of his mind and make him a slave to it, and he knows that it makes him miserable , there is an answer and he say that the answer is Jesus Christ and he really wants us to keep following God's law and in Paul's defense he is still a slave to sin.
So what we need to do is keep going to Jesus and should not give up, Jesus is the law and we know what it is we are doing wrong and that its our sinful nature that we struggle with, don't let that part of you win, surrender daily and if necessary hourly and keep in prayer and remember even though they Holy Spirit won't make us not do it we still have a way out and that way is Jesus Christ and the power of prayer.
