The Necessity of Meekness in Fulfilling God’s Purpose

Beloved, one of the greatest christian virtues needed to fulfill God’s divine purpose is meekness. Meekness is not weakness, but strength under control. It is the humble submission of our will to the will of God, even when we have the power to choose otherwise.

In Philippians 2:5–10, the Scripture gives us the perfect example in Jesus Christ:

> “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, but made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant… and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him…”

Here we see that:

1. Christ humbled Himself – though He was God, He laid aside His glory and became man.

2. He chose servanthood over status – He did not cling to His divine rights but lowered Himself to serve.

3. He submitted to obedience – even to the shameful death of the cross.

It was through this meekness that the ultimate purpose of God—the salvation of humanity—was fulfilled. Without meekness, there would have been resistance to God’s plan, but through meekness, Christ aligned Himself perfectly with the Father’s will.

Therefore, if we must fulfill God’s purpose for our lives, we must walk in meekness. Our abilities, gifts, positions, or knowledge should never make us proud or self-willed. Instead, like Christ, we are called to:

Submit to God’s will even when it is difficult.

Serve others rather than seek recognition.

Trust that true exaltation comes only after humility.

The secret of greatness in God’s kingdom is not in self-assertion but in meekness. Jesus Himself declared: “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5).

Beloved, God has a purpose for you, but the key to unlocking it is meekness. As Christ was exalted after humbling Himself, so shall God lift you up when you walk in meekness and obedience.
