God’s Hand

September 5

“For the Lord of hosts has purposed, and who will annul it? His hand is stretched out, and who will turn it back?” Isaiah 14:27

I’m not sure when it first happened—when I first got that feeling that things were coming together in a way I couldn’t possibly have predicted or calculated. But that moment brought me an awareness of God’s hand in my life—both of His assistance and approval of what I was doing. Like when I planted my last strawberry seedling and realized that the holes my neighbor had dug for me earlier matched the number of seedlings I had!

That joy and enthusiasm I feel—like I’ve been working in a perfect team with someone else—just carries me away. If my children are nearby, I call them and say, “See? That’s God’s hand!” And if we recognize Him in these simple things, what a thrill it is when they happen while we’re serving His cause!

Just look at God’s perfect timing during a recent taping of our 3ABN Russia women’s series, Seven With Spoons:

November - Dates are set for the next recording on March 22–25.

December - I invite Jeanne from Anapa, on the northern coast of the Black Sea, and she agrees to come to our studio.

January and February - We select and discuss topics, content, and the structure of the programs. I’m personally inspired by everything I hear from her, and I like the way she thinks. I feel she doesn’t just share advice as a psychologist, but that she has a deeper understanding of God’s purpose for women.

March - Our guest buys her plane tickets, we find people who will cook, and invite women with an interest in these topics to join us.

A week before we record - The situation in our country changes completely! Children go on vacations almost a week early; people start panicking; we see empty shelves in the stores. Thoughts flash through my mind‚ Will we be able to buy groceries for the programs? What will our guests do? Get scared? Refuse? Or still decide to come? At this point, I can’t imagine the obstacles we’ll face could be much more serious!

March 22 – Four cooks and 12 women are ready to start, Jeanne flies in, and we start recording.

March 25 – After four days of wonderful recordings, we are done. All the women have discovered new perspectives. Viewers will learn something new and feel the “abundant life” and the fullness of joy.

Later that evening – After the programs were over, we find out that work in our country will be completely shut down for a week due to the pandemic.

March 26 – An unusual day, working from home. I begin to understand what would happen if… (although the word “understand” should probably be changed to “become a little more aware.”)

What we did was certainly important and very necessary to God, because He did it, Himself. It is impossible to express my feelings at this moment. If God’s hand is extended over us, no one can stop it. When the Lord acts, no one can interfere. We are on His team!
