MIRACLE (4) – By B.B. John

The parable of the sower reveals the four types of heart conditions.

The preacher (Sower) went about sowing the same seed everywhere. The seed here is the Word of God. It's the same sown everywhere but because of the differences in the soil, some were fruitful while others were not. This makes it very clear to us that the issue is not with the seed or with the sower. It is with the soil - (our heart condition).

Let's examine the four types of the hearts (Soil)

1. The first is the hardened heart (wayside soil). A person with a hard heart lacks understanding of the word. Satan banks on his ignorance to attack and snatch the word out of him. (v. 19)

2. The second is the shallow heart (stony soil). When a person who lacks inner depth hears the word, he receives it with joy. But because of the shallowness of his heart, he falls away in the eye of the storm - trials and temptations. (v.20–21)

3. There's also a distracted heart - (Thorny Soil). Because he lacks focus on the spiritual value, he is choked by riches, pleasure and cares of life and become unfruitful. Spiritual growth requires spiritual depth, focus on Christ, and perseverance. (v.22)

4. The fourth type of heart is the receptive heart - (Good Soil). Because a person with a receptive heart has inward depth and hears the word with understanding, he produces fruit in different measures - 30, 60, 100 fold. (v.23)

Are you a fruit bearer? What type of heart do you nourish?

God expects fruitfulness in every believer’s life. The condition of your heart is what determines your fruitfulness or lack of it as hearer of the word. Your fate is not determined by the seed (word) sown in it. The Word is powerful, living, and incorruptible spiritual seed. (1 Peter 1:23).

Therefore, it is important that we guard our hearts against hardness, shallowness, and distractions. To make our hearts a receptive, good 'soil' for the seed of the word of God, we must diligently prepare it with prayer, obedience and humility. We must prayerfully and watchfully strive to be good soil that receives the Word and bear fruits by it in multiple fold.
