Here is a devotion from Exodus 27:1 (NKJV) written in the same clear and simple format.

The Altar of Sacrifice

Scripture

Exodus 27:1 (NKJV)
You shall make an altar of acacia wood, five cubits long and five cubits wide; the altar shall be square, and its height shall be three cubits.

The Place of Surrender

In this verse, God gives instructions for building the altar of burnt offering. The altar was central to Israel’s worship. It was the place where sacrifices were made for sin and where offerings were presented in devotion to God. The altar represented both the seriousness of sin and the mercy of God who provided forgiveness through sacrifice.

For believers today, the altar points us to Christ. Jesus became the ultimate sacrifice on the cross, once and for all. Because of His offering, we no longer need to bring animals to an altar. Instead, we are called to present ourselves as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to God.

The altar reminds us that worship begins with surrender. To follow Christ is to lay our lives on His altar daily.

Reflection Questions

1. Am I surrendering every part of my life to God as a living sacrifice?

2. Do I view worship as simply singing, or as giving myself fully to the Lord?

3. What do I need to place on the altar today and release into God’s hands?

Prayer

Lord God, thank You for the cross of Jesus Christ, the ultimate altar of sacrifice. Help me to live each day surrendered to You. Teach me to lay down my will, my desires, and my plans so that I may honor You with my whole life. In Jesus name, Amen.
