Flash Your Lights.

By Janelle Owen | September 10

“When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you shall surely die!’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand.” Ezekiel 33:8

Not long after we moved to southern Illinois, we were driving home one night and a driver flashed their headlights several times at us. Where I came from, this meant there was a police officer checking for speeders. But soon we learned that around here, it means there’s a deer up ahead.

We have been very thankful for that warning many times, and now are quick to flash oncoming traffic if we spot a deer by the road. Deer are beautiful creatures, but they aren’t so beautiful when they unexpectedly jump in front of your car!

As I think back, I remember circumstances and people God put in my path to specifically warn me about the direction I was going during my teens and young adult life. It’s amazing how merciful and patient God has been (and continues to be) with me.

From a grateful heart, I want to share the message of hope, forgiveness, and restoration that I’ve found in Jesus. I want to warn those who are on a road of destruction, like I was. I want to “flash my lights” to let them know there’s danger ahead. This is not only my privilege, it is my responsibility as a Christian. In fact, Ezekiel 33: 8 tells us that if we don’t warn the wicked, we will be held responsible! That’s a sobering thought.

Lord, please help me to be sensitive to Your Holy Spirit so I will recognize those you’ve placed in my path that need to be warned.
