James 4:4-10 Unfaithful creatures! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?  Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Or do you suppose it is in vain that the scripture says, "He yearns jealously over the spirit which he has made to dwell in us"?

But he gives more grace; therefore it says,  "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you men of double mind.

Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to dejection.

Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you.

Proverbs 3:31-35 Do not envy a man of violence and do not choose any of his ways;

for the perverse man is an abomination of the LORD, but the upright are in his confidence.

The LORD's curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the abode of the righteous.

Toward the scorners he is scornful, but to the humble he shows favor.

The wise will inherit honor, but fools get disgrace.

Ephesians 4:22-32 Put off your old nature which belongs to your former matter of life and is corrupt through deceitful lusts,

and be renewed in the spirit of your minds,

and put on the new nature, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Therefore, putting away falsehood, let every one speak the truth with his neighbor,

Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,

and give no opportunity to the devil.

Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his hands so that he may be able to give to those in need.

Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for edifying, as fits the occasion, that it may impart grace to those who hear.

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, with all malice,

and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Ephesians 6:10-20 Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might.

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against he principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of the present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places

Therefore take the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stand therefore, having girded your lions with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

and having shod your feet with the equipment of the gospel of peace;

above all taking the shield of faith, with which you can quench all the flaming darts of the evil one.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God.

Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,

and also for me, that utterance may be given in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel,

for which I am an ambassador in chains; that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.
