PARABLES (6) – By B.B. John
Today, let us look at the Parable of the Mustard Seed.
The mustard seed is one of the smallest of seeds, yet when sown, it germinates and grows into a large plant that provides shelter and refuge. This parable reveals the mystery of the Kingdom of God—its nature, growth, and impact.
Though Christ’s Kingdom had a small beginning, it shall have a glorious and great ending.
“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed… when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs…” (Matt. 13:31–32)
The power of growth lies in God, not in man’s ability. The seed grows because of God’s design. In the same way, Christ’s Kingdom grows by the Spirit and power of God, not by human wisdom or might.
The little mustard seed grows to become a large tree of refuge and inclusion.
“…the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches.” (Matt. 13:32)
This transformation from a tiny seed into a great tree represents the Kingdom of Christ growing into a place where all nations find rest. The gospel of the Kingdom is for all peoples—for shelter, peace, and eternal blessings.
LESSONS FOR YOU
1. Never despise small beginnings. What begins small in your life, family, ministry, or business can grow into something great by God’s power. With faith in Him, your efforts and gifts will multiply greatly (Zechariah 4:10).
2. God often starts great things in very small ways. Trust the slow but sure growth of His Kingdom in your life and watch how He turns seeds into mighty trees.
3. Be faithful in little things. God entrusts great responsibilities only to those who are faithful with small ones.
4. Exercise your mustard-seed faith. Even little faith, when placed in God, moves mountains and provokes supernatural growth.
“…If you have faith as a mustard seed…” (Matt. 17:20)
5. Be a blessing and a place of refuge for others. Just as the tree gives shade and shelter, so should your life provide encouragement and comfort to those around you.
Main Texts: Matthew 13:31–32; Mark 4:30–32; Luke 13:18–19
Memory Verse: Matthew 13:31–32
You are blessed for reading.
Happy weekend, and may you enjoy a blissful close of the week in Jesus’ Name.
