PARABLES (7) – By B.B. John
The parable of the leaven speaks of the transforming power of the Kingdom of Christ. Jesus likened the gospel kingdom to leaven that a woman mixed into three measures of flour, until it spread throughout and the whole batch was leavened.
"Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened."
— Matthew 13:33 (KJV)
While the small leaven represents the gospel kingdom, the flour represents the world. The woman who mixed the leaven into the flour symbolizes the Holy Spirit working through His agents—believers and ministers.
Just as yeast, though tiny, permeates an entire lump of dough, so the Kingdom of God, though it begins small, ultimately transforms everything it encounters. Just as leaven works its way through dough, the gospel works through the world with power to bring change. This is how the Kingdom of Heaven grows—through hidden, gradual, yet steady transformation and inward renewal. Its expansion comes not by force, but through a small yet powerful spiritual influence that permeates and transforms everything it touches.
Jesus has placed us in the midst of the world to influence people and nations with the power of His gospel.
Now is the time to move in the power of the Spirit and touch the world with the message of Christ. Though the process of global transformation may at times be slow and silent, its steady and powerful effects will eventually be seen everywhere.
