Good morning everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
In late 2019 to early 2020 (exactly I am not sure of) during the beginning of Covid, President Trump (I watched this live stream firsthand) that we were getting good results from using bleach to kill the virus. His words, paraphrased, were something to the effect that if we could find what specifically was killing the virus, maybe we could use it on humans. INSTANTLY, he was telling us drink bleach … according to those who did not like him. When in fact, he was offering a thought about ‘what’ exactly in these cleaning solutions is it and can it be safely used to make a cure. His suggestion was taken completely out of context.
I have had some good discussions over whether or not Charlie Kirk was a true Jesus following Christians. I was told that he has said some derogatory things that do not represent Jesus. That he spread fear and hate like jelly on his toast. So, like I do, I went looking. Where I do not always agree with his approach to topics, I had not seen that. I wanted to know for myself.
One of the quotes used to support his hate and bigotry was a comment that he made about black women do not have the brain capacity to do these jobs and stole them from a white woman. (paraphrased). Pretty strong. As Paul Harvy would say … here is the ‘rest’ of the story…
The full quote is this: “If we would have said that Joy Reid and Michelle Obama and Sheila Jackson and Ketanji Brown Jackson were affirmative action picks, we would have been called racists. Now that they’re coming out and they’re saying it for us … You do not have the brain processing power to otherwise be taken really seriously. You had to go steal a white person’s slot to be taken somewhat seriously.” Charlie Kirk show 13 July 2023
Where this clip is not much better, he was simply stating that they even stated that the ONLY reason they got whatever job was because of skin color. It is not right if you get the job because you are white. It is not right if you are black. It is not right if you are tan. Jobs should be awarded to those most qualified, or sometimes to those who are most eager to learn. Not by their gender or the color.
So, his half quote is not different than this:
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16
This is used so often, but only this portion. Where this is an accurate statement, those who do not want the rest of the story stop here. The context of this is so important when explaining Christianity to a non-believer. Yes … God sent Jesus, his only son, to die for us. But … do you realize that Satan believes in God too?
Now the rest of the story …
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen that what he has done has been done through God..”—John 3:17-21
Believing in God and Jesus is not enough … your actions play a roll. Satan will tell you “Yeah there is a God and he will love you no matter what you do. It’s all good.” He knows that this is a trap of half-truths that sucker a truck load of souls. He will tell you that Jesus died for you and all you have to do is this…what he tells you is that if you do this … you should want to do this, this, and this … not that.
When we cherry pick what we want to use or to hear, the very concept of the conversation is lost. Could President Trump have said it better … yes. Could Charlie Kirk have said it better … yes. But they didn’t. Jesus did say it better and it is being used to distort Truth.
How do we fix this? We start by becoming better listeners. We start by quit multitasking in conversations. We start by showing respect to the speaker and giving them our full attention, and hearing what they are saying. We start with being human.
Today I aspire to be a better listener. Today I aspire to stop multitasking when someone is talking to me. Today I aspire to start a trend, if only within me then so be it, to be a better human.
Be blessed today my friends.
