From Jacob to Israel: A Journey of Encounter and Conquest
September 17,2025
Jacob ran away from his brother and his family but returned as Israel. The bridge between his turnaround was a ladder reaching up to heaven where he had an encounter with the God of Abraham and Isaac at Bethel (Genesis 28:10-22). He didn't know then that God's word to him—that He would be with him always—was real, but he made a monument of an altar there. Jacob didn't realize he was a moving altar and that the atmosphere around him was the Bethel he thought he built.
Jacob's Journey with God
Jacob went to Laban's house, served for several years with God fulfilling the promise of being with him, explaining the prosperity he encountered at Laban's house—all that he was doing prospered (Genesis 30:27-43). Can you imagine the miracle of turning some cattle to what he desired through exposure to sticks (Genesis 30:37-43)? That must have happened because of the promise of the Lord being with him. He returned to Bethel according to the word of the Lord, not to meet Esau as Jacob—a fugitive, a supplanter—but as a conqueror.
Transformation to Israel and Connection
He had to conquer something more than Esau to face Esau. He had to go between man and angels to become Israel (Genesis 32-33). What a mercy! His name, Jacob, had been the challenge; his angels could not work with him because they were calling Israel, but he knew himself as Jacob. He was ordained to be a conqueror but saw himself as a loser. May you have a change to personality that will fit into the calling of God for your life from today in Jesus name.
