PARABLES (8) – By B.B. John
Next to examine is the parable of the hidden treasure:
"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field." (Matt. 13:44. NKJV)
In this parable, a man discovered treasure in a field, hid it again, and with joy went and sold all he had to buy that field. He clearly understood the worth of the treasure he had found.
This parable illustrates the incomparable and unequalled value of salvation and the joy found in Jesus Christ. It reveals the truth that eternal life in Christ is far greater than anything else in this world. Indeed, the gospel of Christ is the greatest treasure any person can discover.
Salvation transforms every area of life, and therefore it should be a joyful possession—the most treasured pursuit on earth.
Like the man in the parable, you must recognize the value of your salvation in Jesus. Likewise, you must guard your salvation and relationship with Christ through total commitment.
Following Christ requires full devotion and sacrifice. You must willingly, joyfully, and wholeheartedly give up all else, placing Christ first above every other pursuit or value. What is gained in Christ far outweighs anything that may be lost.
The Kingdom of Heaven is a priceless treasure. Your salvation is more valuable and precious than all worldly glory, possessions, and ambitions. Once you discover the true worth of Christ and His kingdom, everything else becomes secondary in value.
Main Texts:
Matthew 13: 44
