THE ADVENT TRUTH

In Revelation 11, John sees two mysterious witnesses who prophesy in sackcloth for 1,260 days, are killed by the beast, and then raised to life by God. Many speculate these are two literal end-time prophets like Moses and Elijah, but from the biblical perspective, these witnesses symbolize God’s Word — the Old and New Testaments.

Here’s why:
• Revelation 11:4 says they are the “two olive trees and two candlesticks.” Psalm 119:105 tells us God’s Word is a lamp, and Zechariah 4 uses olive trees to symbolize the Spirit-filled Word of God.
• They “prophesy in sackcloth” (Revelation 11:3) during a time of darkness — the 1,260 years of papal supremacy (538–1798 AD), when the Bible was suppressed and hidden from the people.
• Verses 7–9 describe the beast making war against them and killing them. This was fulfilled during the French Revolution, when atheistic France openly rejected the Bible, even enthroning the “Goddess of Reason” in its place. For 3½ literal years (1793–1797), the Bible was banned — perfectly fulfilling the prophecy.
• After this, Revelation 11:11 says “the Spirit of life from God entered into them.” This was fulfilled when Bible societies like the British and Foreign Bible Society (founded in 1804) began spreading the Scriptures worldwide.

The Bible view highlights that this prophecy isn’t about just two people at the end of time, but about the power and endurance of God’s Word. Though persecuted and suppressed, the Bible cannot be destroyed. It will finish its testimony and shine brighter than ever before in the last days.

This is a warning and a promise: nations may try to silence Scripture, but God’s Word will rise in victory. In the final crisis, the same Bible that was once attacked will be the dividing line between truth and deception.
