Good morning everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
A few years ago, a friend of mine lost her father. Though I did not know him, I did know her, and I showed my support for her by expressing my condolences. In the process of that visitation, I met and made new friends. Over the course of time, my friend would tell me that her dad was being a stinker. I asked her to explain, and she would tell me of odd things like lights that were off but now are on. That the dog zeroed in on an empty chair. That things were out of place. (She is seriously ocd) We made light of it and she told me that he, her dad, needed to behave.
About two months ago my dad’s Facebook icon showed up in my Messenger. It is not uncommon for random people to all of a sudden be there, so I did not think much of it. But no matter how many times I refresh, he is still there. Mind you, my dad passed away in July of last year. No one is on his Facebook. The first couple of times I saw it, I was like ‘hi dad’. As I have stated, he has been there non-stop for the last couple of months.
The closing of my husband’s dad’s journey here on earth has taken a hard left this month. As I think back to when I first noticed Dad in my Messenger feed, is about the time the reports of lackluster days with his dad started coming in. In typical Jerry fashion, he showed up to support me so that I could support my husband.
My dad and I had an interesting relationship to say the least, but I never questioned his loyalty and love to/and for me. I never questioned his support for me. I knew our relationship was television material; however, it was genuine. In many ways, I am my dad. In many ways, I am following in his footsteps. Continuing his legacy of helping others. In many ways, I see situations differently than others; Dad was good for that.
I truly believe that he had a conversation of sorts with God and said, ‘Look, I know I can't go back … but let me do this. I will stay quiet but let me do this for her.’ Then, after debates on both sides, God realized that his creation was not surrendering to this thought and went ‘poke,’ and Dad’s icon appeared.
Today I am thankful for my dad’s appearance on my Messenger feed. A gentle reminder of what lies ahead for those who believe and follow. A peace that no one here can truly understand, and a chair of comfort built just for you.
Thanks Dad, I miss you.
Be blessed today my friends.
