“And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment.” — 1 Chronicles 12:32

Thought Of The Day...
In the midst of David’s rise to kingship, different tribes of Israel rallied around him, each bringing unique strengths. Among them, the men of Issachar stood out not for their military strength, but for their spiritual discernment. Scripture says they had “understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do.” They were men who could read the spiritual climate, interpret God’s purposes, and give wise direction.

Something to Think About...
We live in a world that is shifting rapidly—politically, morally, and spiritually. Like the tribe of Issachar, believers today are called to discern the times. Jesus warned in Matthew 16:3 that many can discern the weather, but fail to discern the signs of the times. True wisdom is not just about knowing what is happening in the world, but knowing what God is saying in the midst of it.
• Spiritual Awareness: The Issacharites teach us that discernment is vital. To “understand the times” means seeing events not just through human eyes, but through the lens of God’s Word and Spirit.
• Wise Action: Understanding without direction leads to confusion. These men not only knew the times, but also knew “what Israel ought to do.” Wisdom leads to action, and discernment leads to obedience.
• Leadership in Uncertainty: Notice that only 200 leaders guided the entire tribe. A few discerning voices, rooted in God’s will, can guide many. Today, God is still raising up people who will seek Him, understand His purposes, and provide godly leadership in uncertain times.

Prayer...
Heavenly Father, We come before You today in humility, seeking Your wisdom just as the sons of Issachar were given wisdom to discern the times and know what Israel ought to do. Lord, in these days of confusion, uncertainty, and shifting values, we confess that our human understanding is limited. We need Your Spirit to open our eyes, our ears, and our hearts so that we may not only see what is happening around us, but also discern what You are saying in this season.
Lord, give us a heart of discernment so that we are not tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine or every opinion of man. Help us to stand firmly on the foundation of Your Word. Teach us to see events through the eyes of faith, and not through the lens of fear. Where the world sees chaos, let us see opportunity for the Kingdom. Where others see decline, let us see the harvest fields that are white and ready.
Father, just as the men of Issachar provided leadership and direction to Israel, may we also be vessels of guidance in our families, churches, and communities. Raise up men and women who will speak truth boldly, who will live righteously, and who will lead others closer to You. Anoint our pastors, leaders, parents, and teachers with discernment to shepherd well in these challenging times.
Lord, we ask for clarity in decision-making. When choices seem clouded, when the path forward seems uncertain, remind us that if we lack wisdom, we can ask of You and You will give generously without finding fault. Help us to wait on Your timing, walk in Your ways, and trust in Your providence.
We also pray for courage. It is one thing to understand the times, but another to act upon that understanding. Give us the boldness to obey what You reveal, even when it is unpopular, even when it costs us, even when it requires faith beyond our own strength. Strengthen our hearts to stand as lights in the darkness, salt in the earth, and voices crying out truth in love.
Finally, Lord, we pray that our discernment would always lead us back to Christ. May we never become so focused on the times that we forget the One who holds time in His hands. Jesus, You are Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on You, our hearts surrendered to You, and our steps ordered by You.
We thank You, Father, for hearing this prayer. We believe by faith that You are raising up an Issachar generation who will discern rightly and act wisely. Let it begin in us today. We ask all these things in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
