Psalm 14:1-7 RSV
Psalm 14:1-7 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none that does good.
The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there are any that act wisely, that seek after God.
They have all gone astray, they are all alike corrupt; there is none that does good, no, not one.
Have they no knowledge, all the evil-doers who eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call upon the LORD?
There they shall be in great terror, for God is with the generation of the righteous.
You would confound the plans of the poor, but the LORD is his refuge.
O that deliverance for Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, Israel shall be glad,
Romans 3:9-18 What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all; for I have already charged that all men, both Jews and Greeks, are under the power of sin,
as it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one;
no one understands, no one seeks for God.
All have turned aside, together they have gone wrong; no one does good, not even one."
"Their throat is an open grave, they use their tongues to deceive." "The venom of asps is under their lips."
"Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness."
"Their feet are swift to shed blood,
in their paths are ruin and misery,
and the way of peace they do not know."
"There is no fear of God before their eyes."
Psalm 53:1-6 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity; there is none that does good.
God looks down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if there are any that are wise, that seek after God.
They have all fallen away; they are all alike depraved; there is none that does good, no, not one.
Have those who work evil no understanding, who eat up my people as they eat bred, and do not call upon God?
There they are, in great terror, in terror such as has not been! For God will scatter the bones of the ungodly; they will be put to shame, for God has rejected them.
O that deliverance for Israel would come from Zion! When God restores the fortunes of his people, Jacob will rejoice and Israel be glad.
Job 42:1-17 Then Job answered the LORD; "I know that thou canst do all things, and that no purpose of thine can be thwarted.
Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?' Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.
"Hear, and I will speak; I will question you, and you declare to me.'
I had heard of thee by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees thee;
therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes."
After the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to E-li'-phaz the Re'ma-nite; "My wrath is kindled against you and against your two friends; for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has,
Now therefore take seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering and my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will accept his prayer not to deal with you according to your folly; for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has."
So E-li' phaz the Te'ma-nite and Bil'-dad the Shu'hite and Zo'phar the Na'-a-ma-thite went and did what the LORD had told them; and the LORD accepted Job's prayer.
And the LORD restores the fortunes of Job, when he had prayed for his friends; and the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.
Then came to him all his brothers and sisters and all who had known him before, and ate bread with him in his house; and they showed him sympathy and comforted him for all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him; and each of them gave him a piece of money and a ring of gold.
And the LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; and he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she-asses.
He had also seven sons and three daughters.
And he called the name of the first Je-mi'-mah; and the name of the second Ke'zi'ah; and the name of the third Ker'en-hap'puch.
And in all the land there were no women so fair as Job's daughters; and their father gave them inheritance among their brothers.
And after this Job lived a hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, four generations.
And Job died, an old man, and full of days.
