My People.

Today, God has a people still languishing in Babylon, part of the corrupt religiopolitical system that we’ve been told will soon be destroyed. Only He knows the hearts of individuals; it is the responsibility of His people to call everyone out as a witness.

Jesus said that there are both genuine believers and wolves in our churches. He told the parable of the wheat and the tares, of good and bad mixed together, as it is in Babylon. It is only when the harvest comes that He will gather “the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn” (Matthew 13:30).

In the early days of King David, Ishbosheth, the son of the now-deceased Saul, was set up over all the tribes of Israel, save for Judah. Saul’s former general, Abner, played a significant role in establishing Ishbosheth. However, when Abner saw the wickedness of Ishbosheth, he defected to Judah, saying, “May God do so to Abner, and more also, if I do not do for David as the LORD has sworn to him” (2 Samuel 3:9). His conversion from one kingdom to another was genuine, but all was not well.

Joab, one of David’s mighty men, harbored hatred from the conflict between the two kingdoms. He deeply resented Abner, who had slain Joab’s brother. When the opportunity presented itself, Joab slew Abner, who may have been a great benefit to David, just as Paul greatly benefited the Christian church upon his conversion from persecuting Jesus’ disciples.

How careful we need to be, then, that when condemning the sins of Babylon, we do not judge individuals, for among them is God’s very own. Some who were once zealous for Babylon will bring their zeal to the side of God. This is why Jesus said to “love your enemies” (Matthew 5:44). We all were once in darkness; those who are still in darkness may yet see the great light and accept Jesus.

Heavenly Father, help me to have that same love toward humanity that you demonstrated when you gave your life on the cross.

For Further Study: 1 Kings 19:18; Romans 11:4; Matthew 13:24–30

Key Bible Texts
And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. (Revelation 18:4 KJV)
