The Offering of Peace
Scripture
Leviticus 3:5 (NKJV)
And Aaron’s sons shall burn it on the altar upon the burnt sacrifice, which is on the wood that is on the fire, as an offering made by fire, a sweet aroma to the Lord.
Fellowship Through Peace
The peace offering was different from the burnt offering and grain offering. It was a voluntary sacrifice given to express thankfulness, fulfill a vow, or celebrate fellowship with God. Unlike the burnt offering, not everything was burned. Part was offered to God, part went to the priests, and part was shared in a meal. This offering symbolized restored relationship and communion between God and His people.
For believers today, this offering points to Jesus Christ, our peace. Through His sacrifice, we have peace with God, and we are invited into fellowship with Him. It reminds us that worship is not only about forgiveness but also about enjoying communion with the Lord.
This verse calls us to live in the peace Christ has secured and to share in fellowship with Him and with one another.
Reflection Questions
1. Do I live daily in the peace Christ has given me, or do I allow fear and worry to steal it?
2. How can I strengthen my fellowship with God through prayer and worship?
3. Am I seeking peace in my relationships with others as an outflow of Christ’s peace in me?
Prayer
Lord God, thank You for the peace I have through Jesus Christ. Teach me to rest in Your presence and to enjoy fellowship with You. Help me to live in peace with others, reflecting the reconciliation You have given me. In Jesus name, Amen.
