1 Samuel 2:1-11 Hannah also prayed and said, "My heart exalts in the LORD; My mouth derides my enemies, because I rejoice in thy salvation.
"There is none holy like the LORD, there is none besides thee; there is no rock like our God.
Talk no more so very proudly, let not arrogance come from your mouth; for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.
The bows of the mighty are broken, but the feeble gird on strength.
Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, but those who were hungry have ceased to hunger. The barren has borne seven, but she who has many children is forlorn.
The LORD kills and brings to life; he brings down to She'ol and raises up.
The LORD makes poor and makes rich; he brings low, he also exalts.
He raises up the poor from the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and on them he has set the world.
"He will guard the feet of his faithful ones; but the wicked shall be cut off in darkness; for not by might shall a man prevail.
The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; against them he will thunder in heaven. The LORD will judge the ends of the earth; he will give strength to his king, and exalt the power of his anointed."
Then El-ka'nah went home to Ra'mah. And the boy ministered to the LORD, in the presence of Eli the priest.
Nehemiah 1:1-11 The words of Ne he-mi'-ah the son of Hac-a-li'-ah.
Now it happened in the month of Chis'lev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Su'-sa the capital,
that Ha-na'-ni, one of my brethren, came with certain men out of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that survived, who had escaped exile are in great trouble and shame; the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates are destroyed by fire."
When I heard these words I sat down and wept, and mourned for days; and I continued fasting and praying before the God of heaven.
And I said, "O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments;
let thy ear be attentive, and thy eyes open, to hear the prayer of thy servant which I now pray before thee day and night for the people of Israel thy servants, confessing the sins of the people of Israel, which we have sinned against thee. Yea, I and my father's house have sinned.
We have acted very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, the statues, and the ordinances which thou didst command they servant Moses.
Remember the word which thou didst command thy servant Moses, saying, 'If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the peoples;
but if you return to me and keep my commandments and do them, though your dispersed be under the farthest skies, and I will gather them thence and bring them to the place which I have chosen, to make my name dwell there.'
They are thy servants and thy people, whom you hast redeemed by they great power and by thy strong hand.
O LORD, let thy ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants who delight to fear thy name; and give success to thy servant today, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.
Now I was cupbearer to the king.
Psalm 6:1-10 O LORD, rebuke me not in thy anger, nor chasten me in thy wrath.
Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am languishing; O LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
My soul also is sorely troubled. But thou, O LORD--how long?
Turn, O LORD, save my life; deliver me for the sake of thy steadfast love.
For in death there is no remembrance of thee; in She'ol who can give thee praise?
I am weary with my moaning; every night I flood my bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping.
My eye wastes away because of grief, it grows weak because of all my foes.
Depart from me, all you workers of evil; for the LORD has heard the sound of my weeping.
The LORD has heard my supplication; the LORD accepts my prayer.
All my enemies shall be ashamed and sorely troubled; they shall turn back, and be put to shame in a moment.
