Deuteronomy 8:1-6 All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers.
And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.
And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with man'-na, which thou kneweth not, neither did they fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.
Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.
Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.
2 Chronicles 7:14-16 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.
Proverbs 16:18-19 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, then to divide the spoil with the proud.
Proverbs 29:22-23 An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
A man's pride shall bring him low; but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
Isaiah 57:14-21 And shall say, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the stumblingblock out of the way of my people.
For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth; for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made.
For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him; I hid me, and was wroth, and he went on frowardly in the way of his heart.
I have seen his ways, and will heal him; I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners.
I create the fruit of his lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him.
But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.
There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.
Matthew 18:1-6 At the same time came the disciples unto Je'-sus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
And Je'-sus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,
And He said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into then kingdom of heaven.
Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.
But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
James 4:6-10 But he giveth more grace. wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Draw near to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
be afflicted, and mourn, and weep; let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
Humble yourselves in the sight of the LORD, and He shall lift you up.
