Humble RSV
Deuteronomy 8:1-6 "All the commandment which I command you this day you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to give to your fathers.
And you shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he may humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, weather you would keep his commandments, or not.
And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your father's know; that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but that man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD.
Your clothing did not wear out upon you, and your foot did not swell, these forty years.
Know then in your heart that, as a man disciples his son, the LORD your God disciples you.
So you shall keep his commandments of the LORD your God, by walking in his ways and by fearing him.
2 Chronicles 7:14-16 If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place.
For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that my name may be there for ever; my eyes and my heart will be there for all time.
Proverbs 16:18-19 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor than to divide the spoil with the proud.
Proverbs 29:22-23 A man of wrath stirs up strife, and a man given to anger causes much transgression.
A man's pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.
Isaiah 57:14-21 And it shall be said, "Build up, Build up, prepare the way, remove every obstruction from my people's way.
For thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is holy; "I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.
For I will not contend for ever, nor will I always be angry; for from me proceeds the spirit, and I have made the breathe of life.
Because of the iniquity of his covetousness I was angry, I smote him, I hid my face and was angry; but he went on backsliding in the way of his own heart.
I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will lead him and requite him with comfort, creating for his mourners the fruit of the lips.
Peace, peace, to the far and to the near, says the LORD; and I will heal him.
But the wicked are like the tossing sea; for it cannot rest, and its waters toss up mire and dirt.
There is no peace, says my God, for the wicked."
Matthew 18:1-6 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
and calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them,
and said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
"Whoever received one such child in my name receives me;
but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin,
it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened round his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.
James 4:6-10 But he gives more grace; therefore it says, "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to dejection.
Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you.
