Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
Yesterday was a beautiful gift from my Father in heaven. The temperature was gorgeous. Although a little wobbly at the beginning of my workday, it landed with delightful smiles and jokes. I was even politely informed that I have a character flaw that needs to be worked on. I am sure I have plenty more, but this particular one kind of set different because I have been working on it for a while … apparently it needs more work.
After being told about this situation, I was in shock, honestly. This is an area that I know that I have failed in multiple times but thought that I had improved…perhaps I have in some regards; however, it appears that I have work to do. I am thankful that this person was bold enough to let me know.
The Holy Spirit has been gracious enough to place people in my path who are strong enough and bold enough to let me know when I make mistakes. They do not do it in such a manner as authority over me, or better than me, but in a loving and correcting way. They use God-logic or another form of Holy Spirit guidance.
When I first came to my current office, I had no respect for the job or timeliness. If I were late, who cares? I was never like hours late … just a few minutes. So, what was the big deal … right? The conversations between me and the other clerk were almost all biblical or Christ-centered in some way. One day, as I was clocking in … I think on time actually …. He approached me and asked if I thought it proper for a Christian to be so untimely. The funny thing with that was, as I was driving to work that day, the Holy Spirit had convicted me on my timeliness issue as well. From that day on, and that was back in 2009, I can count on one hand how many times I have been late.
Bold friends came to me when I was sliding backwards in my walk. They came in pairs at first, because I guess I was scary … looking back … I kind of was. When I sternly brushed them off, they did a rinse and repeat until I dug my head out of my attitude.
Then yesterday when a dear friend showed me that I tend to get dismissive in conversation. Something I had not noticed. But as I leaned into the possibility, I could see what they were saying. That sincerely bothered me. Not that they opened my eyes to this issue, for that I am grateful, but that I had not noticed it or corrected it myself.
Our walks are different, person to person, but the same in the same direction. As Christians, we need those bold friends who will tell us when we are missing the mark. Not in condemning or condescending, I am better than you, but … ‘hey, do you see what you just did there’, loving nudge. Also, as Christians, we need to receive that correction in the manner for which it is meant … love.
I am so thankful that God has placed in my path people who are not afraid to speak the Truth to me when I fall short. I am so thankful that God has placed people in my path that are bold and loving at the same time. I am so thankful that I have been placed on this path. I am blessed.
Today I encourage you to look at the people in circle. Do they encourage you or mock you? Do they support you or condemn you? Do they hear you or do they dismiss you? Do they love you or do they hate you? Your circle is who keeps you going in the rough times and held accountable in the good times so that you do not become more in your head than you really are. Encompass yourself with good, solid Christian believers who are bold and loving all at the same time. It makes a world of difference.
Be blessed today my friends.
