Topic: Waiting for the Right Word
Scripture Reading:
Acts 16:16-18 –
And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
“And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.”
There is something profound in the phrase “And this she did many days.” The damsel with a spirit of divination followed Paul and his companions, declaring words that seemed true on the surface but came from a lying spirit. Paul did not immediately rebuke the spirit. Instead, he waited.
Why? Because he needed the right Word from the Holy Spirit. Not every moment is the right moment to act, and not every word—even if true—comes from the Spirit of Truth. Paul was grieved in his spirit, but he restrained himself until the Holy Spirit gave him utterance and the divine timing to command with authority. When he finally spoke, the result was immediate—the spirit left her the same hour.
This teaches us a vital principle: in every situation, it is not enough to simply know what is wrong; we must also know when and how the Lord wants us to respond. Acting outside of His timing may bring no result, but when the Word comes at the right time, it brings deliverance, salvation, and glory to God.
Beloved, waiting on the Lord for the right Word, the right command, and the right declaration is not weakness—it is wisdom. The Lord knows best when to act and what to say, and His timing is always perfect. To walk in this, we must live in constant tune with the Holy Spirit, sensitive to His leading and willing to wait until His appointed moment.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, teach me to wait on You. Help me to discern the right Word and timing for every situation. May I always act under the guidance of Your Spirit and not by my own impulses. Grant me grace to walk in step with You, that all I do may bring glory to Your Name and salvation to others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
